Can someone explain exactly what components are used when mating the engine and tranny? Clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, t/o bearing,
pilot bushing or whatever else is or isn't used. Which parts are porsche Which parts are chevy Which parts are custom I know beggers can't be choosers, but pics are NICE! ![]() |

The attached link should give you a idea of what parts are used in the Renegade kit. You listed all the right parts. The t/o bearing is different than stock 901 piece and appears beefier. None of the parts used are chevy products.
Flywheel appears to be customized from the extra machining that I noticed. Might be from a 911, bus etc. but I'm just not sure. Same goes for clutch and pressure plate. Sorry for the vague answers but best I can come up with. I'm sure Brad can identify them all. RH offers two different clutch packages, a standard and a 9" upgrade for those running a little more power. I seem to remember Scott saying that the 9" was now all that is offered for the 914. There are several places around the country that offer these parts for 901/sbc conversion and I believe you will see several differences depending on where and when these parts were produced. http://www.renegadehybrids.com/914basic1.htm John

John You are correct, RH supplies only the 9" upgrade. I have the 8" standard and I am going to have to upgrade one day.

SF Bay Area V8 Meet March 27
For all interested,
There will be a dozen V8 converted Porsches (914, 911, and 944's) meeting at the Great Mall in Milpitas this weekend. This may be the largest gathering of V8 Porsches to date. There will be a variety of conversions to check out - old and new Renegade, Simpson, KEP, (Mines a hybrid - Jaide, RS, and RH parts). Scott of Renegade will show and drive his flagship car "Peal". We plan to take a drive through the Calaveras Road hills toward Sunol and beyond for those inclined. Run with the V8 pack, photograph details, and ask the owners questions. There may even be a Car Magazine covering the event... Email or PM me for details and if you're going to join. I'd love to see some SoCal cars.

I look at 944s as having a gimped motor on one of those super speedy electric wheelchairs. It's not all there, but it scoots. I love the idea on a v8 in a 944. BUT! When you get say... a 928 and stick in another v8... put in something with more cylinders!! v10! Okay thats crazy. Oh well, just put something in there that's worthy.

We had our Atlanta meeting and Toy-Jet traveled over 800 miles with his supercharged LS6 911 to come. This thing is great. The car and build quality is far better than anything I've seen yet.

Many auto companies are owned by other auto companies like Daimler-Chrysler. The new Crossfire has a Mercedes derived engine. This is a trend that will continue. I knew an "English" Cal Tech professor who had a GM V8 installed in his Jaguar. He preferred more reliable power/torque at lower RPM. The worlds auto designers are trained at 2 or 3 schools. Do you really think the Porsche designers are all German or the Honda designers are all Japanese?
