Starter Not Starting

My car will not start ( starter does not work, will not engage, will not crank) if I shut down and restart shortly after. It will start all day long without any problems unless I have been driving for a distance. Can the starter be locking up due to heat build up? All the wires looks ok and it only happens after driving. If I let it sit for 15 min. it will start up. Anybody seen this before?

A bad ignition switch can cause that problem too, so what you need to do first is put a voltmeter on the starter solenoid wire and make sure there's 12V present when you turn the key to start. If that's ok, then check your ground/battery cables and terminals before finally condemning the starter motor as the cause.

Check the Tech Articles section for Jim Thorusen's "Starter System Troubleshooting" article.

Could be a lot of things, from marginal connections to slightly damaged contacts in the ignition switch, to old sticky grease in the solenoid...
