				914 engine
			 
			just bought what I thought was a 914 engine.  The serial # is GA007519, seller says that this is a 74 2.0, does the serial # look correct? Thanks in advance. | ||

			North American '73 and '74, 914 2.0L engine numbers begin with GA.

			Look at the heads....if they have three bolts attaching the intake runners to the heads it's most likely a REAL 2.0.

			Heads could have been replaced or it could be a bus motor....

			it's a 2.0 case... if it says GA anyway... the bus 2.0s started with other letter combos: http://tunacan.net/t4/reference/case.htm could have easily just had the heads replaced with 1.8 heads... pray they weren't replaced with late BUS heads (square port)

			What is the specific difference between Bus heads and 914 heads other than the square vs oval exhaust port? Valves, Porting, Flows, spark plug angle, combuation chamber? L. McC | ||

			Ignoring the later "square port" Bus heads... The 2.0 bus heads are about the worst-performing Type IV heads out there. The valves are either as small as or smaller than the 1.7 valves. The intake and exhaust ports are both fairly small. Those result in them flowing significantly worse than the 2.0 914 heads. The combustion chamber is shaped differently than the 914 heads. The plug is in a different location. You can start with Bus heads and have them re-worked until they perform as well as or better than stock 914 heads, but that requires some know-how and some machine tools. And that's where people like Jake, and Adrian at Headflow Masters, and others come in. --DD
