What do I have here? (gearbox)

Working on my synchroless-second box. Its a bit unusual.

The gearbox bears number 911.301.311.OR (apparently same as a '70 or '71 911 box) but stamped on the bottom is 914/01 and 7501928. The rear housing is numbered 914.301.301.03 and is different than my '72 tailshifter housing. It seems to have a LSD (or spool maybe).

Can anyone identify this beast? Comment on the stock gearing? Is this a 914/6 box?

TIA!!

Dave

PS- thanks James (redbeard) for the synchro-site. Well done, a big help.

Found a reference. Interesting that the box is numbered 911.xxx but stamped 914/01. It is indeed a 914/6 box.
IIRC the six's gearing was different. Does anyone know how the actual ratios compare?

TIA

Charlie Davis does.

Note that 1 and 4 are the same--2, 3, and 5 are different between the two. There should also be a tapped hole on the right side of the intermediate plate where the Six bellcrank for the throttle linkage goes.

Thanks as always Dave, the bolt is indeed there. I'll be ordering the tools from Pelican this week.

That ratio list is great. The six's ratios might be just about right for my 2056cc which is probably similar in power over the rev range. I have th tohk through the rationale between the various options.
This car had been badly converted to a six at some point, and it looks like the powertrain was taken from a 914/6 and dropped in -six blew up, 914 2.0 replaced it, oil tank holes plugged, gearbox and mount left in place.

You can sideshift convert the 6 box, if you have a trashed doner sideshift tranny,
