'74 2.0 Oil Temp Sensor Test
I know I've read this somewhere, but can't seem to find it...does anyone have a test for the oil temp. sending unit to determine whether it is good or not?

I can tell you how to test it...
First test the wireing from the sending unit to the guage. make sure there is a connection. Next ground the guage, where the wire comes in, only for a short time. The temp should read fully hot. Now check for a connection between sender and ground. The last step is kinda pointless, because you know that everything else is working. hth (I just learned that ![]() Kevin |

Thanks, that sure was a quick reply...while I am at it....can anyone give me a clue as to where the oil pressure sensor is located...and what gaskets the oil strainer require (just the seal and copper ring?)I am trying to isolate some leaks and am often told that these are common causes. It's an oily mess down there !

The oil temp sender is on the bottom of the case near the front left corner. It is covered by a plate and should have an orange wire (as I recall) coming out of it. Ooops! I just reread your post. The oil PRESSURE sender is located near the distributor.

Many places sell a "oil strainer kit" (of coarse check with Pelican first )it has two gaskets and the aluminium washer. The tow gaskets are for between the plate and the strainer, and the strainer and the block.
WARNING: The strainer bolt is held on with something like 9 ft lbs. VERY VERY LITTLE TORQUE. If you over torque the bolt you can break the block at the #2 cam bearing boss. On gaskets I like to use a spray on copper coating, Peratex makes one most FLAPS carry. reimphasize the last post about the torque on the oil strainer nut. it's possible to break a boss inside the case that holds the oil pickup tube. good warning for all type 4 types
