I will be putting in a water-cooled engine in my 914 soon and was wondering if anybody has done or seen an engine lid that's solid and no grill area at all. This way I can get rid of the rain tray and still have the side grill areas for some fresh air intake. I don't need all that air for cooling anymore. Anybody tried this or have pictures of one? Thanks
Kent

Why worry about the grill. Just remove rain tray(give it to someone who needs one) and cover the grill from the inside with sheet metal painted black?

I think it would be awfully easy to make a replacement metal panel with a sheet-metal brake and some flat stock. Aluminum would be nice and lightweight... You might even be able to bend a single piece of metal to go over both the front and rear half.
Hmm, that triggers a memory. I think I may have seen such a lid or seen a pic of it, but just where that was is not coming to mind. Remember that the rear half of the lid does have a slight curve to it. --DD
