5 lug conversion rear brake options
What are the best options for rear brakes? I'll be using carrera front brake calipers. I also have a set of 320i calipers that I can put spacers in for the rear, but will lose the parking brake. I would like to keep it if I can.

The rears don't do that much work anyway. Stock -4 rear calipers (on stock -6 rotors) are plenty good for almost all uses. Vented rears are neat-o, but the rears practically never see enough heat to boil the fluid.
...Or you can go with a Wilwood mechanical "spot" caliper or go-kart caliper on the other side of the rotor. Or on a rotor that you sandwich in the inner CV joint flange. ...Or you can adapt a 911 parking brake drum brake setup. A search on this BBS for the user "Wilco" should turn up some pics. --DD

unless you have a huge engine or are racing competivley, there's no reason to change the rear calipers...

I agree with Dave, the rear rotors wont get hot enough to require venting..

IHMO, it is best to have a matched set of brakes. Carrera A calipers and Carrera M rear calipers would be the ticket. I had a set of these on the 3.2 914. Of course, on 911 Carreras a proportioning valve was used. SC have a rear M caliper that has a smaller piston than the Carrera M caliper. Also, SC's have a thinner rotor than a Carrera.
Of course there is the monster NASCAR size rear brake setup option that can be installed (this is what is on the 3.2 914-6)

The real 914-6 rear caliper have the same pad size as the M pad. It just used a solid rotor.
I have BiG Reds all around for the 914-6 I'm building for myself. It's a 71-6 #430 Yea! Its got the huge engine ![]()

When I did my conversion, I used a 19mm master cylinder, stainless lines, S calipers with vented rotors, the stock proportioning valve and stock rear calipers with 914-6 rotors. Thing stopped on a dime.. nice firm pedal...
