4 lug bolt pattern?

Anyone know what the bolt pattern is on the 4 bolt 914 wheels? I have a '72 that I would like to put some aftermarket wheels on. I have found a company that will take almost any wheel I purchase from them and re-bore it to the proper 4 bolt pattern. Also, offset recommendations would also be a great help as I am still unsure of the wheel size that I can fit. Thanks in advance for your responses.

If you are having the wheels redrilled, make sure they weld the original holes and then stress relieve the centers. If the centers are cast and not forged they may come out too weak to be really usable. Good luck.

The offsets depend on what size rims and tires you want to run.

I have heard of people fitting 205/60-15 on 7J15 rims. I think I remember those having a 5" backspace. (Backspace is the distance from the edge of the rim closest to the center of the car, to the mounting plane.) I also hear that it does not fit on all cars.

I have heard people saying that 4.5" to 5.25" backspace (numbers vary depending on who you ask) are what you want to shoot for. I'd be tempted to stick with 6.5" wide rims with ~5" backspace. That is probably still pushing the envelope, but is a little bit on the side of caution.

Hey guys, thanks for all the information. Dave, if I understand you correctly I will need to find a 6.5 inch wheel with approx. 5" backspace. Since most of the wheels are measured by their offset which my understanding is a measurement on how far back or forward the mounting surface (face) is from the center of the wheel. With that said I should be looking for a wheel with approx. 1.75" or 45mm offset. Right? 6.5 x .5 to get the center of the wheel and add 1.75" to reach the 5" backspace. Does that sound right to you. I will repost and let you guys know what worked out after I order and put the wheels on. If I do have to end up using wheel spacers to get the offset right, do you have any recommendations about where I can find quality ones? Thanks again!

That sounds correct, or at least close.

Remember, this is all hearsay. I cannot guarantee that the rims will fit--there seems to be no guarantees when it comes to fender clearances on a 914.

If you get them and they don't fit, you can call Pelican up and see if they can get you spacers. Hopefully you won't need much. If the problem is on the outer edge, then you can mash the fender lips flat, or "roll" the fenders out a little bit. Hopefully one or both of those will let you run the rims you want.
