I'm in the process of switching a 1.7L out of my '71 and putting in a 1975 2.0L with side shift trans.
I have the engine bar that came with the 2.0 mounted on the engine because of course I need it for the shift bar hole. My problem/question is I'm wandering if the mounting of the bar to the body of the car was different in later year cars. The front of the engine is about an inch low and the tin doesn't line up. The bolt also ends up short. I also have the plate that goes between the bar and the mounting. What am I missing? Sean Last edited by Rhodes; 02-10-2005 at 05:36 PM.. |

I've never done it myself, so I'm guessing, but from your pic it looks like you can adjust the car mount a bit...maybe adjust it on both sides of the car to make it fit?

late cars have solid mount son the outside.... you need one of those......
early cars had the rubber mounts there.....

I kind of suspected there was a different mount. Hope I can do this without having to move the engine too much. Sean |

The mounts you need are little more than a 4-5" long "U" shaped piece with three bolt holes. It drops into the bracket on the body from above and the engine mount bar bolts up to it.
Have you got all the other pieces you'll need? shifter, shift rod, firewall bushing.... |

I'm also doing this conversion and have run into the same problem. Where can I get these solid mounts? Pelican had no idea.

Feh! They're in the parts book and the PET. Someone was not looking carefully enough! Tell whomever it was that you want the brackets for the outboard end of the 73+ motor mount bar. I seem to remember that the bolts are a different length as well (shorter, I believe) so you might pick up a pair of them at the same time. There are also specific washers, which are just regular round washers with the edges trimmed down on opposite sides so they look more like ovals. I've sent out part numbers before, but don't have access to them right now.
Then again, you can find some beefy U-channel and cut and drill it appropriately if you're motivated... And if you want to take responsibility for the mounting yourself. --DD
