Intake air temp sensor
The car is a 1973 1.7. My problem is that with the sensor connected the engine hunts badly at idle and sometimes dies when cold. When I disconnect the sensor, the car idles perfectly and runs great. I have replaced all the vacuum and breather lines, tried a new MPC, installed a new temp sensor, and tested the rest of the components in the FI and can't seem to track down the reason. Also the idle mixture knob on the computer doesn't seem to affect the mixture as it once did.

How many miles are on the engine? I don't know about the hows and whys about what's going on, but there is a mention of that situation in Tuning and Modifying Bosch Fuel Injection. They almost suggest unplugging the sensor as an "unauthorized trick" to richen the fuel mixture on worn engines.

Also have a '73 1.7
I disconnected the sensor before driving to work this morning. Didn't notice anything different. |
