Fuel Injectors

I have a '75 1.8L. Recently, I removed the muffler and noticed the exhaust end of the heat exchanger on the left was black and sooty. The end of the right exchanger was a nice tan color, the color I would expect to see for a good mixture. The injectors on the left side of the motor are a different style than the ones on the right side. The left side injectors have the harness connection coming in at an angle and the right side injectors are coming in lined up with the fuel supply line. I think the right side are for the 1.8 and the left for possibly another displacement motor, but I'm not sure. The motor runs well, but the fuel consumption seems high. I have concerns the right bank of cylinders may be producing a bit more power than the left, causing some stress on the internals. I have four injectors from another 1.8, but I'm unsure of their condition. Please let me know which are the correct ones for my motor. Thanks!!

The injectors are supposed to be color coded for specific engine sizes.

Yellow are for 1.7
Green are for 2.0
Beige & Turquoise are for 1.8

It sounds like the previous owner changed out some of your injectors - possibly used ones from a wrecking yard.

What color are the plastic parts of the injectors? Can you read part numbers off of them?

The 1.8 injectors seem to have varied in color at least somewhat over the years, but many of them are a light blue (I think it was) color. Part numbers are: VW/Porsche == 022 906 031 C ; Bosch == 0 280 150 112 .

fuel injectors

Dave and Vern,

Thanks for the replies. I didn't get a chance to remove the airbox and the injectors yet, but I did get to look at the numbers on my spares. Two of them have a label showing "633-137 08.06.99 Python." The plastic is white and the tips are black. Another one of them has the Porsche/VW part number Dave listed. The other one has no parts number, the plastic is sort of a salmon color and the name "RAM" appears on one edge. I did notice the tip of the Pythons are larger than the stock injector. So it looks like I have one definite and two or three maybe's. If anybody knows anthing about the Pythons, let me know. Thanks again!
