1980 (or so) 318i front calipers are a bolt on for 70-72 front struts using stock rotors. It'll take some machining to get them to fit the 73 and later struts to get them to line up with the stock rotors. GPR in San Luis Obispo has the kit.

Check in the Tech Articles section of this very website; you'll find the modification explained. Note that this is only for the front brakes.
There really aren't any other ready-made "kits" available for the 914's brakes. You can swap over to 911 brakes, but that requires replacing the suspension struts at a minimum, and then you have to deal with converting the rears to five-lug. And you still have stock rear brakes. Which aren't bad, IMHO--the rears don't contribute a whole lot to braking anyway. The fronts do most of the work. There are billet hubs you can get that let you bolt up ventilated rotors and 911 "M" calipers (I think you need an adaptor bracket) and still use four-bolt wheels. I'm not sure how available they are yet; they just came out recently and may still be in a testing stage... --DD

I did the 320i front conversion on my '74 and the braking difference was tremendous. I highly recommend it.
The machining part is really very simple so don't panic. about 1/16th of an inch has to be ground off the place where the attaching bolts go thru. The machining is done on the inside edge and on my 320i calipers, there was a casting mark (looked kind of like a seam) right where the grinding had to be done. I did it my self on a bench grinder and I've been using them for about 3 years now. It's probably best to have the machining done at a machine shop. I did my own without any problems but a shop is probably more precise. Vern |

The 4-lug billet hubs use early 911 vented rotors, 911 calipers (2 piston), a few people have adapted 4-piston Volvo calipers....no adapter brackets needed, everything bolts on..oh, only for '73 to '76 struts
My personal setup is 12+" vented rotors with aluminum RX-7 4 piston calipers, an adapter bracket is needed...

with the 911 stuff, yes. BUT you can do 1 of 2 things: either put a spacer in your rear calipers to keep the PB, or do a 911 conversion on the PB too... it's not as plug-n-play, but can (has)be done.
