sticky idle

When I come to a stop my idle is sitting at just under 2,000. If I feather the clutch (in gear) the RPMs drop back down to just under 1,000 and stay there.

I just recently did a tune up (plugs, rotor, ponts, condensor, coil, cap). My dwell is reading 54 and I think I timed it right but with some of the marks missing I may have done that incorrectly.

Any ideas? Is my dwell too far out of norm? Have I mistimed it or is there some other issue like a stuck air box?

When my 2.0L did the same thing it was rust in the return sprind on the throttle body. I know your L-Jet is a lot different, but look at the mechanical parts of the throttle first. The pedal can rust at the hinge and get sticky, the cables can also stick, and the aux return spring on the TB can break.

FWIW, if you had a backfire recently maybe the air-vane got bent?

Backfire...hmm. Entirely possible. Does that mean I need a new box or is it repairable? My current one has a bunch of goo around the top cover as if somebody has had it open in the past.

Kevin: Set your dwell to 48 degress; 54 is to high; and then recheck you timing.
Check the Decell valve as it may be sticking; temp. plug off the small vac. line that goes to it! If the problem is not in the accel. linkage or worn out throttle valve; my money bets on a bad decell. valve!
Good luck... Ed
