Front trunk floor
I am restoring a 74 914 that was a track car. It was a California car so it was structurally sound but did have a few areas where I could use some advice. The front trunk of the 74 was cut out and replaced with a basket weave steel mesh. I saw an article in the forum that someone had a trunk available they could cut out and sell. Is it still available ?
I just scraped all of the "tar" of of the inside floor pans and rust treated them. any advice on what to replace it with ? I believe it was supposed to be sound proofing and you know how thin the metal is, I was thinking of foam padding under the carpet??? |

Try posting on the "914 Parts For Sale/Wanted" section of this BBS, and the similar one on the 914club website. You will probably be able to find one, though you may need to wait a while...
You can replace the "tar" with, well, just about anything. Some have used Dynamat or its more-generic cousins. Some have used roofing materials. Foam padding under the carpet is another option, though I think it may work better when the sound deadening stuff is attached to the metal. And some people just leave it out as unnecessary weight. --DD
