looking for aftermarket tyre size options

im looking for a tyre size thats a bit wider than my stock 165r15's. the 165r15 size seems too skinny for my riveria wheels. i think the riveareas are 6 inches wide??.

im not looking for much wider than stock, maybe 185/65-15 is a good choice for a replacment tyre size?

what are you guys running?

Folks seem to run anywhere from 185-205 in width on a 5.5" wide rim.

I used to like 195/60's -Didn't throw off the gearing and the ride was still "good. Once you drop to a 50 series expect the ride to be a bit harsher as well as the engine to rev harder to keep up speed (ie 60mph goes from say, 3000rpm to 3500rpm). Some like 205/50's. Still others, 205/60s. Not too many stick with the "narrow" 185.

What application is this for? Street driving? Autocross? DE/TT? Then the brands will change. Overall, there isn't too much made for 15" rims. You either get "ecomony car" tires or more competition oriented tires. Not much middle ground.

its a street car. basically used by my father, an old man that doesnt go over 60 and the car has probably never seen a quick corner.

the current tires are futura euro metric 165r15. you think 185 is skinny, 165 is skinnier than my hand is.

Rivs are usually either 5" or 5.5" wide. Depends on the original application and fitment. Check the fit; if the tires are very close to the outer fenders you are stuck with 165-width tires.

I personally like 195/60-15. I've been happy with Yokohama and Dunlop tires in the past, but now I have 205/50-15 Falken Azenis tires. Awesome grip, not so great for anything other than dry-weather grip.

For someone who doesn't need the traction of a wider more modern tire, some replacement 165R15 tires (aspect ratio of "about" 80) should work just fine. They should fit the Rivs pretty well, and the ride and such should be what your father is used to...

They had the skinny tires even with the alloys. On the Rivieras, if they are too close to the fender, they will rub with a wider tire. I know a lot of folks prefer the 185's, but I have 195-60's on my 5.5 inch OEM wheels and am very happy with ride and handling.
