Signal light indicators
Hi,
Hope to bug you guys for some more info. I am changing my 74 tach. to a 71 one. Has anyone dealt with the problem of the signal indicators. I would like to get them both working rather than one. Thanks SVS 74 914 2.0 |

You'll have to do some re-wiring to get it to work. The 74 only has a single wire that goes to the indicator in the tach. So you'll have to do some creative surgery to route that one wire to the appropriate place in the turn signal circuitry, and route another wire to run the other indicator.
More work than I would bother with, myself... --DD |

How true :-( The later single bulb design ran one wire from the flasher and grounded the bulb at the tach. The earlier design ran individual wires (for each bulb)from the turn switch to the bulbs and then both bulbs were tied together for a single run to the flasher. I'm involved in the reverse (late tach in early car - modified for V8), but for your situation, I would have to agree with Dave....it would be FAR easier to just get a late tach.

I you really want to convert the indicators to separate flashing here's how to do it: You will need a couple of electrical splicers and some wire. Then you have to drop the fuse/relay panel out of the way then remove the emergency flasher switch and pull it down so you can get to the wires. Refer to the electrical diagram here on PP listed as "1974 page 3" look for item E3 the flasher and you will see a black/white and a black/green wire that go to the signals. You will also see them on your flasher switch connections. Use the splicers and add a length of wire to each wire close to the switch. Then cut the wire to the bulbs on the tach and the wire between the two bulbs and then connect the end of the new wires to the individual bulbs. That should make two individual indicators so test them to see if they blink left for left etc. I did this on my daughter's car and it worked well but as Dave said it is a little bit of a pain. Good luck.

Thanks,
It will not be as big of a PITA as you guys think. I am rustoring this car and it has little more than paint on it(chrome yellow). I am just installing the harness now. While we are on the topic of wires. what is the purpose of the grey wire comming from P on the starter switch assy? On the diagram it goes to yellow box 30. I cannot find box 31 to continue this circuit. If I may also one more question. Where have most of you chosen to supply power for your stereos? Thank you very much. Check on line #30 for where the wire goes. You'll see a box with "67" in it. That's where the wire continues. It goes to the "parking light switch". Hmm, not sure exactly what that is.

Why in the world would they do that? They go from box 49 to 50 but and then they go from 30 to 67. those crazy Germans.... SVS 74 914

The box shows the track number where the wire continues. Notice that the box on 30 labled "67" connects to the box on 67 which is labeled "30".
