Looking for heat
Will bus heat exchangers, in whole or in part, fit the 914?
What is a good source for headers that could have some heat exchange surface/tubes added? I'm not in the mood to buy ~$300 worth of heat exchanger for the winter on the coast of AL. Any one have any slightly used heat exchangers for sale cheap? Stock is o.k. Karl P '74 1.8 914 |

Hey KarlP, I don't know the answer to your question but it's nice to see a fellow teener in AL. Where the heck is Theodore?
Good luck! |

Shawno-
Just a hair west of Mobile. I have yet to see another 914 on the road around here. None in the local junkyards, either. Karl P. |

I am taking my stock ones off next weekend to put my new SS ones on. They seem to work just fine. they are from a 1974 1.8. If you are interested, and they check out okay once I get them off, you can have them for $100.

Hey Karlp I know xacly where Theodore is! just a stones throw form Pascagoula MS. Well I live in Gautier actually but most people can't say it. As soon as I get my bumper on we will have to get the teeniers out on the road. No heat either. Lately could use A/C.

Bus exchangers won't work. They point the wrong way and are too short.
If you want to use the 1.8 exchangers, you'll need a 1.7 or 1.8 muffler and muffler hanger. The 2.0 stuff will not work. If you're keen to wrap sheetmetal around headers, why not try the set you have now? Otherwise, you can go to Kerry Hunter http://www.kerryhunterenterprises.com and buy his. Or the European Racing headers, or the CFR headers. Check Excellence (I think) for their ads. --DD

Hey Joe, We'll do that. Ive ridden in Gautier, in the DeSoto National forest. That's where I get my real speed fix.
Dave- I have a feeling my current headers/exchangers are getting a little thin walled from rust. I'll probably end having to actually spend some money. Karl P. |
