radio antenna
Talk about picky.
I don't like the location of my radio antenna, which I assume is stock, on the left fender. My previous 1974 914 2.0 had the antenna right behind the rear window. It was attached to the engine cover grill, that was on the left side of the actual engine cover. It was nicely built in, so I don't believe it was an owner modification. What I am guessing is a PO got a piece of trim from another 914 version to add this. Any idea what it came from? Maybe a 914-6? or a later model 914?

The stock 914 never had a radio antenna anywhere but the fender.
The one you seen must have been placed after the factory. Why dont you like the antenna on the fender? Regards Kelly |

Supposedly all of the radios were dealer-installed. That said, the only 914s that I know of with rear-mounted antennas were done by an owner of the car, not the dealer.
The dealers used the right or left front fenders, seemingly at random. --DD

If the antenna bugs you move it.....or get a Hirschamnn electric one that retracts when the radio is off....

I am going to move the antenna, I just wanted a reason to justify the new location, like, "its just like the 916..."
I guess I will just move it anyway. The fender location seems to break up the lines.

916 had its antenna in the windshield so the rear mount is all up to you and your choice. Good luck, making it clean is all that really counts.
