need help!

Please help my 71 1.7 FI
my car runs fine except when i turn my ignition to the off position,it stays running. When its not running and i turn the switch to the run position the fuel pump activates like normal but when i switch it back to off the gen light stays lit until i disconnect the battery when i do that i hear a click from the relay board (i think) but i cant tell exactaly because my battery is in the rear trunk. I've replaced the volt. reg
just a few minutes ago, same thing but now the red gen light isnt working ive tried replaceing fuses relays cleaning connections
so far my guess is at the ign. switch...damn
i took the whole steering colonm from my other car same thing. thanks for any help or suggestions
