Need to know if you car is flared. If it is not flared, then 16x6 is a good option. Since it appears you have a V8, wider tires may be needed.

Also, is the car 5 or 4 lug.

You can get some pretty decent 15" light weight wheels from spin werkes. They were the supplier for circle racing.

I've been looking at a set of 15x8's from them. 11 lbs each, at $238 each. Custom built, any backspace, any bolt pattern.

I had 12" rotors on mine (4 lug car) luckly I have Revolution 17" rims, wouldn't fit with the 15" Fuchs (a 16" rim would work I think, the caliper to rim interferance wasn't too bad on the 15" rim)

stock rotors

I have 195 50 15 tires on empi rims. The problem is that low profile results in a car that is revving quite high at fwy speeds resulting in lousy gas mileage.
I woul d like some opinions. If I went to a 60 or 65 series tire woiuld that bring my revs down without adversly affecting the cornering?
If I jumped to 16s, which would make all of this much more expensive, what profile would make the speedo accurate?

There would be an adverse effect on cornering by going to a taller sidewall. The ride will get softer, the car less responsive. (By no means will it get "soft" or "unresponsive", though! It's still a 914 after all!!) Most people feel that the compromise in cornering is worth the trade-offs... And the original tires were significantly taller than 195/50s anyway!

OEM is 165/80-15, so the nominal sidewall height is 165mm * 0.8 = 132mm = 5.2". There's a sidewall on each side of the rim, so that's 10.4", added to 15" gives you 25.4".

If you want to use 16s, you need 11.4" of total sidewall, or 5.7" on each side of the tire. That's ~145mm, which on a 195 means about a 0.75 "aspect ratio". So you'd still be running a fairly tall tire to get the stock rolling diameter to keep the speedo relatively accurate.

Crunch the numbers yourself. There are lots of alternatives...

I have Empis with stock tires and there is very little room on the outside. If I went to 195 60 15 would they fit under the stock fenders. I can fit like two finger in it between the tire and the fender .Is the lack of room on my car unusual?

Sounds like you may have Empis with a Bug offset. Chances are pretty good that you can't fit much more than a 165 if that is case.

Check how much room you have. The width number is in millimeters (theoretically), half of which would be on the inboard side and half on the outboard side. 195s would be 30mm wider than 165s (in theory!) so if you have about 20mm between the sidewall and the fender (30/2 = 15 +5 for safety) you ought to be able to fit at least some 195s. (In which case, you have 914-offset Empis!)

Remember that 914s encounter tire fitment problems in the rear, not in the front.
