What is this engine?
I have a '76 912E with an engine having the following engine number. EA029376. I think I know what this is but I would like to get some feedback. From what I have found it looks like it is a 1.7L engine from a '72 914-4. Anybody know if I'm right?
Thanks, Rob |

Rob, It should be the same 2.0 liter found in the 914.

From the engine number, it's a 1.7 and not a 2.0 at all! Does it have three-bolt heads? (Three studs holding the intake runner pipes onto the head, or four?)

Where did you find that engine number ????Enginecase , near the oilbreather assembly?
On 912E:s there is no number !!! Atleast I think so. Not on mine , not on several others I have seen. That area , where you have it stamped on like 914s , is blank. On a 912E , the number is stamped to fan shroud , and it is something special. First there is a "star" then numbers and another "star".... PM me , if you want some pics on these. Naturally , I am NOT an expert , so I can be wrong ( again... ). You might put that engine number question also to 912 section. Or ask that question at 912bbs , there are some real 912E knowledgeable guys there.... e k i |

The number is on the pad located on the driver side upper forward area. (As installed in the 912)
The engine has 4 bolt intakes. Thanks, Rob |

Is this where you found the EA engine number, flywheel end of case? If so...You've got a 1.7L 914, or possibly a 411/412 engine.
