5 bolt conversion help

I am trying to fit hubs from a 1971 911 onto the spindle of a 1970 914. For the front wheels. I am having a problem finding bearing to complete this job. I have everything else worked out except for the bearings. I just got back from a bearing store and the guy there said that I was out of luck. Is this true? Should I buy the spindle from the 911 too? What is the easiest way to fix this problem? Thanks.

Also check the "five-lug conversion guide" in the Tech Articles section of this very website. Using the 911 struts is the best way to go; I don't know if there is any front bearing that fits the 911 hub and the 914-4 front spindle.

If I buy the 911 strut, will it bolt onto the a-arm and will my 914 shock fit also?

the strut with ball joint will fit.
The ball joints may be the same, depends on the year/type
Shocks, depends on the brand and type of strut
brakes depend on the strut
hubs depend on vented, non-vented rotors.

It would be advisable to get struts complete with the ball joint, shock, hub, rotor and caliper as a set that way you get a known matching/working set.

why? the shocks available arent valved right. big deal, get slightly larger A calipers.....

stick with an earlier front end (boge housings) where you can get either 3" (m caliper) or 3.5" (A or S Caliper) mounts and your 914 valved struts SHOULD interchange.....

Yeah, It is kind of to late anyways. I have already got a pair of strut housing from a 1973 911. I think these should work just fine for what I want.
