Hi all,
Well, the topic may be a little misleading. I'm contemplating selling off my 914/6 collection of parts. They've been sitting around (various locations) for around 8 years or so. I had trouble locating a rust free 914 chassis, and finally gave up while living in Michigan. Now I basically have a 914/6, but no car to install it on. Hence the contemplation. Do I once again start a search for a chassis? Or sell the 914/6 parts? Before I make that decision, it would be nice to know what I'm up against. I realize 914's are still priced relatively cheap (and what awesome cars!). But I don't have an idea of what /6 parts sell for. I'll list what I have, and if anybody has any experience with this, please give me a realistic opinion. And before I get one, don't anybody send me a post that asks me to sell the parts to you for the cost of shipping, which you'll conveniently cover ![]() 914/6 parts: 2.2 L original block rebuilt motor. I'm not sure of the cams in this thing, but I'm positive they aren't "S" cams. The motor is rebuilt, with no miles on it. Other than the questioning of the cams, and the bump in liters, I believe everything is stock. No pressure fed cam tensioners, etc. I am however, missing the original Marelli distributor. The plug wires are there, just no distributor. The carbs are the triple Webers that have also been rebuilt. I'm unsure of the jetting, etc. Transmission: Stock 901 (914/6). Some feel the early 901 trans isn't worth the effort due to the tail shifting mechanism. However, this transmission has the mechanism for the carb linkage. Currently both the transmission and the motor are mounted on a custom frame. Other goodies that I can think of: 1.) All the sheet metal is on the engine. 2.) Just about everything on the engine has been painted silver. 3.) I have an oil tank, a little worse for wear, but functional. Missing the filler assembly. 4.) Had (or have, depending on if I can locate it) the original relay board from the 914/6. 5.) Have the original heat exchangers that have been cadmium plated. 6.) Have the 914/6 axles, new in box from Stoddard. 7.) Have the 914/6 stub axles and rear hubs. 8.) Have the front motor mount, although I no longer possess the part of the firewall that the mount attaches to. 9.) Also have the front struts and spindles, so the five bolt conversion should be pretty easy. 10.) I had (again, have if I can find them) the coveted rear calipers, although the pistons were pitted and I could never find parts for them. 11.) Have all the carb linkage. I'm sure there are other parts I'm leaving out, but I don't have them in front of me, and it's been a few years since I've made a thorough mental inventory (the car parts, not me!) Don't forget!!!! I'm just interested in finding out what a package like this is worth! Members like yourselves are some of the most knowledgable people in this area. But please refrain from inundating me with requests to buy this or that or the other little thing to finish your conversion. In the near future I may sell it, I may find it's easiest to get rid of by parting out, I may try to help you out, but that isn't the reason for this particular post. Thanx, Rob |

Keep what you have and find a roller. Even if it not purfect, a good 914 shouldn't bee all that hard to find. Once you get the car assembled, then you can work on making it purfect. At least you will be able to enjoy a fun car instead of looking at a bunch of parts.
just my 2 cents. ------------------ Dave 1970 914-6 (soon GT) |

I would get a roller... they are out
there and can be found. If you do not want to go as far as the West Coast check with Perry Keihl (914 Network) he is located in TN.... 901-847-9146 ------------------

And don't forget Brad Mayeur in East Peoria IL. veldiadv@midwest.net I think he's forgotten more about 914 than I've ever known, and he is a certified expert in the Fight Against Rust.

Only 8 years? Keep the dream! Find a rolling chassis and get started. CA is full of low rust 914's and the shipping to you only adds to the satisfaction of a *new* running -6!
FWIW, scg (my -6 will be on the road by the end of May -- after more than 10 years of parts hoarding . . . cash starvation, don't ya' know) |

Cadmium plating on hot parts is a bad idea. Did you have the heat exchangers done or did they come that way?
