viewer poll on color change......

i just bought a 74 1.8 with a very bad respray. original color was orange. is it worth more as original orange or should i go with a, well, um nicer color?

Changing the color in a half-*ssed fashion can be annoying a little down the road. For instance, if you get a rock chip in your perfect white paint and orange shows through. Or if you open up the trunk to fill up with gas and it's orange inside. And so on.

Getting a full color-change done everywhere is often more pricey than people want to pay.

A well-done color-change probably does not affect the value in any significant way, at least not at the current time. There may come a time when it does, but if so that's quite a ways down the road. A half-*ssed color change probably impacts the value because of the annoyances noted above. I'm not sure it affects it a huge amount, though.

I personally feel that basing your decisions on what to do with the car on how it affects resale value is putting the cart before the horse. If you hate orange, change the color. So what is you lose some money on the deal later--in the meantime you have a car that you like!

Orange is the color the 914 in my head was before the one turned up in the garage.

You should make it how you want it, not how it will sell the best.

I have an Alaskan Blue 2.0(I beleive) with a pretty close repaint that needs to be redone. I'm going with the original color for the same reasons Dave mentioned...and I like the color. Orange is a great color......but IMHO ,if you do repaint, it should be done well and completely (remove rubber seals ect..) otherwise its looks funky.

In that case there is no question that the original color is best. I've never seen a color change car done correctly.

i agree ...

only way is to acid dip it or get it soda blasted. either way, down to bare metal (the whole car!) or otherwise it'll look like a hack-job ...
