My car needs to go to the shop soon. What’s the best way to tow, tie down etc?
Should I request a flat-bed truck? If so, how should the tow guy haul it onto the truck without breaking anything? Should the car be tied down through the wheels? Also, the motor's out so do I remove the outer CV joint from the axle shaft and reinstall the CV joint so that the car can be rolled around without damaging the wheel bearings etc?

Tied down through the wheels is OK for the short term. It isn't necessarily optimal (and if you were regularly towing, e.g. to racing events) you'd want better arrangements, but for a one- or two-time event it should be OK.
You can leave the axles hanging if you like--supported by coat hanger wire or some such of course! But don't roll the car around with no stub axles in the hubs. That destroys the rear bearings. --DD

I've strapped my car to my flat bed trailer to over 30 events through the spokes in my wheels.
OK here. KT
