UFO - Unidentified Foam Object

I am in the process of putting together a '75 2.0 basket case. I have come across a large odd-shaped styrofoam thing and I have no idea where it goes. It is about 2.5 feet long by 1 footl tall and has a square cut-out thru it. The front is smooth and the back is rough - it has a really strange "oily" feel to it. There is also a little piece of wood about 12"x12" that sort of fits over the cut-out - but I am not sure if that is where it goes.

I was thinking it might fit in the passenger side foot well or else in the front trunk perhaps around the fuel pump?

Anyone have any ideas?

TIA!

That does sound like the pad from the passengers foot well. i am not familiar with a 75, so I am not sure about the hole and wood unless someone was trying to mount a speaker in there? If there is carpet in the car, peel up the passenger floor mat, and then you can peel off the passenger foot well carpet, and see if that's the spot. if may go under the driver side but I have never looked under the drivers side of mine to see if it has one as well.

I'll bet it is for the passenger footwell. In 1975 the EGR counter etc sat in the cut-out.

The driver's side does not have one. The pedal cluster mounts to the floor pan behind the wooden floor-board on the driver's side.

Thanks guys - I will try to fit it in the pass. foot well and let you know. That is the only place I think it could possibly go - and the EGR counter thing makes sense although I do not have an EGR counter as far as I know....
