Smile Replace stock air box...with differant filter??

Anyone modified a k&n or other to bolt right up to throttle body eliminating stock air box. I was in the process of running tubing over to fenderwell and then a filter as in the cold air intake set ups... but now am wondering if there is enough cool flow in that area?

Not certain about the 1.7 or 2.0 motors.
I have a 86 Alfa spider that has the same injection system as my 74 1.8
The car came with a K&N filter that connected to the air flow meter.
If you could construct a bullet-proof connecting tube,I believe that you could find a filter that you could install anywhere in the car.

74 1.8
