Carb conversion questions
I appreciate the advice I received about my fuel injection problems, but I have finally decided that too many fuel injection parts are bad on my car to make it worthwhile fixing it. I have learned that my car suffered a fuel injection system fire and then was stored for 20 years. So, I have some questions about putting carbs on my car.
My car is a 75 1.8 and I picked up two used Solex 32-34 pdsit-2 and pdsit-3 carbs and intake manifolds from another 914. I am in the process of removing my fuel injection and installing these carbs but I have no manuals for these carbs that show what vacuum hoses go where and which tubes on the carbs to use or plug. I have also been told that the timing needs to be set differently when using carbs. If anyone has converted to these carbs or knows how, I would appreciate hearing from you. |

Pretty small carbs but it will run. All you have to worry about is the hose from the PVC valve and valve covers so get a puke tank to route those to.

I don't know your smog laws in Mi but this might be something
you will want to look into. No matter how clean it runs it will not pass the visual inspection with carbs. Hopefully this will not be a problem for you. It should run OK with those small carbs, the FI cam is not designed for carbs when I went to webers I did need to change the cam. But it was worth it. |

Linkage question
I need a linkage kit for my dual Solex carbs. I have only been able to find kits with linkage, carbs, air filters etc.. all in one package. I just want the linkage.
So. Cal. We do not have inspections and smog laws in MI so I am good there. Even if it seems to run ok should I change the cam, or is this only necessary with bigger carbs? My plan is just to get it moving again after 20 years storage, work out the other issues and then put in a higher performance engine some time later. If it will run decent for a couple of years with these carbs and cam, I'll be happy. Bleyseng, I will have to get a tank and plumb it in. I just removed about 10 ft of garden hose that someone was using for the charcoal canister tubing. Pretty scary!!! |

It should run, how "ok" will be seen. Just make sure you jet
those carbs so your plug's color is like coffee with cream. Also I would sudjest EI in a good dizzy, mallory unilite is a fine distributor and will light up your plugs well. I like the CB linkage and your dist will work just as good as the cam. You can expect to get an increse in milage and a decrese in power. You may never notice if you haven't driver a good running 1.8 before.
