How to isolate the CSV
Living in OZ I dont think the cold start valve is necessary.What is the best way to isolate this valve and how would that affect performance?

disconnect the fuel line connection. It will only affect starting at freezing temps, other than that, you won't miss it a bit.

Thank you Hardflex thats what I thought.I noticed on another thread that you were querying black smoke out of the exhaust.My car is a '73 2.0 litre and I am getting some black smoke out the exhaust I presume that the car is idling rich is that correct?

Yes, black smoke indicates a rich mixture.
If your cold start valve is leaking, that could be causing the richness. When mine went out, it would bleed the fuel line pressure into the intake plenum, and was real hard to start. You had to treat it like a flooded carburetor and floor the throttle . Also check the MPS to make sure it holds vacuum. If it doesn't, it would be send full throttle fuel supply all the time.

If you still have the stock FI....the adjustment knob on the brain will correct idle mix only. Best to use an emission tester while doing so.
A bad MPS can also be an issue.
