Hi all,
I'm looking at buying a 73 2.0. The body is clean except for some paint bubbling by the sail panels on both sides. It looks as if water collected under the chrome trims by the sail panels and started to rust the metal. Is this common? Also, is it a big deal to fix? (it doesn't appear rusted-through) Thanks |

If you look up inside the rear wheel wells you can see that they extend all the way up into the sail panels. The grime and what not that is kicked up by the wheels is the reason for this area to rust. Replacement is better left to a body shop unless you are experienced with proper tools. There is lots of delicate cutting and splicing involved so as to have a proper fit with the least amount of filler. Also check jack posts under the rockers, these were the two areas rusted on my car.
