headlight motor testing
I know this is probably a groaner "oh no, not another headlight thread!", but I can't find instructions for BENCH testing headlight motors, not in the car. Any help??

I've bench tested mine but it has been some time and I'm a bit fuzzy. IIRCC, there are three leads going to the motor. I used a 12v power supply and I either put the negative on the center post of the motor and positive to one of the outside posts for the motor to run. Then put the positive lead on the other outside post for the motor to run.
I may be backasswards on using the negative lead on the center post or vis-a-versa. Depending on your situation, if you check the wiring to the motor you may get a clue as the wiring connections (i.e. positive & ground). When trying it at first briefly tap the outside post to see if the motor starts to spin. Good luck, Keith |

There are TWO wires going to the motor. One, the brown one, is ground. The other one, green, is the 12v+ source. The motor doesn't reverse, so there's no need for a third wire. ground the brown wire, apply power to the green wire. If the motor moves, then it works. if it doesn't move, then it doesn't work. Occasionally,it may need a little help. Turn the plastic knob on the end in the direction indicated by the arrow. IIRC, it's not a good idea to turn it the other way with power connected.

I believe that turning the knob the other way will simply unscrew it from the back of the motor.

I must have been thinking of the 924, which is well known for frying H/L motors when turned in reverse.
