Post Seatbelt/starter relay on 74 1.8

Hi all,
what is the correct way to bypass the seatbelt-to-starter "relay"? I have a 74 and under the driver's seat I see a dangling wire. The PO told me he disconnected it so the car can be started without the seatbelt in place. Is this OK? (just disconnect it?) or is there another way?
Thanks

I also bypassed those relays on my 74 1.8L. You just need to connect together the 2 heavy yellow wires and discards all the others ones. You can look at the electrical schematics in the Haynes manual, the European version doest't have those relays.

Yup, that's how you do it. A less-permanent (and more failure-prone) way to do it is to make up a jumper wire to plug into where the relay used to go that connects the two yellow wires.

A more permanent way is to solder or crimp the two wires together. Make sure you use shrink-tubing if you do either of these--you really don't want water getting in and messing up the connection.

Finally, I suggest leaving all of the other wires in place. There are other systems that get their power "daisy-chained" off of the relay. The relay isn't necessary, but the power goes to the connector, and from the connector it also continues to the other system. If you really want to get rid of the wires, then splice together any wires that go to a single connector. The ones that are "solo" you can get rid of. Just make sure none of the cut-off wires can get grounded, or you'll have some very strange problems.

It could just mean that the sensors on the seat belt buckles were unplugged. That fools the relay into thinking the belts are fastened.

Just went through this today! Be warned, the heater blower and other accessories are controlled by that logic switch. The PO of my car "jumped" the seatbelt switch as well, and removed the logic switch. Nothing out back was working. See my post of 7/27/01 about aux heater blower. "jumping" may cause you some of the same problems.
