Talking about from upgrade master cylinder : first post!

hello,
just in case, i m sorry for my english but I m French...

I would follow the explain to upgrade the brakes of my 914-4 2L 1973 because french people don't know how good driving slowly , and if i have all understand i can swapping mercedes 23 mm master cylinder.
But what is the good model and the good year ?
May i have more informations or experiences regarding these modifications? Can i put the 320i calipers without modifications ?
thanks a lot

The 23mm master cylinder has a much larger area than the stock 17mm one. This will make the pedal much harder to press, and you will need to press harder for the same braking effect! It is not a recommended change unless you have upgraded to very large pistons in your front brakes (usually done by swapping in a complete 911 front suspension).

The 911's 19mm master cylinder will result in about a 25% decrease in "leverage" (actually, in "hydraulic advantage", but it works the same way) from the stock 17mm one, which means the pedal will travel 25% less far but you will have to press 25% harder to get the same braking effect.

However, if you couple that with the 320 brakes (the ATE versions supposedly bolt onto the 70-72 914 struts, or fit the 73+ ones with some machine work) they will balance the 19mm M/C fairly well...

But if you put good brake pads on your 914, use high quality brake fluid, and bleed all of the air out of the system (which may take much longer than you think it will, and may require bleeding the air out of the proportioning valve that is on the firewall) you may find that the brakes work quite well even when completely stock...
