Intro...

Hi everyone. My name is David Dustan....
I just bought my first 914 (1974 1.8) and am very happy with the purchase! The car was babied and is pretty close to show/stock. It was never outside in rain.
I have checked seals and found the window / top seals need replacement but all others are intact... including trunks, doors, etc. The interior is dry and in outstanding condition with console and 8-Track player. Trunks are original with not a scratch, ding or speck of rust. Original wheels are on the car and in good shape.
Engine runs great but I get almost a rattling noise on deceleration. I had a '77 bus that did the same thing and it was the heat exchangers. Think it is the same here?
I am picking up a Haynes manual, have ordered a cover and bra for this car since I have found how easy ding show up on the leading edge of the front trunk lid.
I'll have lots of questions as I go but I appreciate the community!

A bra tends to sand off the paint instead of getting chips. I don't know which is worse? The seals are easy to replace and be sure to keep an eye on all the rust prone places that 914s have. Good luck.

Hey DDustan, I am in West Seattle! When I get mine running, we should cruise around the town! Good to see a fellow Northwester!

Thanks everyone! I am looking forward to a long relationship with this car!

chrisreale and Geoff, nice knowing I have some "locals" here! Down the road we can have our own tour! My car is 'Signal Orange.' I don't like orange on any other car.... except a Porsche... and signal orange is a bit different, I think.

Took the car for a long drive for the second weekend in a row. Doesn't miss a beat. I have to be careful since Pemco says they'll cancel my policy if I get a ticket in a sports car. I have never had a ticket before (24 years of driving). I am now "being careful" and I'm sure that'll last!

Cheers!

David

Hi David,
My 76 is Nepal Orange which I do like on the Porsche's. I do know a few other locals and there is the Wash State 914 Club which isn't doing much right now. To meet fellow 914 nuts come to the next PCA Autocross! You don't have to run but there usually is 8-10 914's racing. Lots of good people to meet and connect with for parts and advice.

Hi Geoff,
I don't think I know Nepal Orange. How similar is it to signal?
I'd like to go to the autocross! I don't know that I'm ready with this car yet (can you say "reverse" at 25 MPH? ;>
I'm not a PCA member yet but hope to be soon enough!!

David
