Mild Mech resto and paint - shop needed MD/VA
Hello
I am going to pull the trigger to get my 914/6 painted. It has its original paint, but it is well worn. The engine was nicely overhaulled by DeMan a few years ago. My needs are as follows: - high quality paint job, not sure how deep to go as the car has very little rust. - Minor interior work - one seat needs a cover and the dash has had a "wood kit" installed. I NEED this removed! - Minor engine upgrades, maybe new mounts from Rebel? Install my Tangerine shift tubes and a new JWest or Wevo shifter (recommendations) - Suspension should be good, but a good inspection is needed. - Install my brakes from PMB, sweet set up. Period Brembos upfront and GTs out back. Any recommendations on a shop in say Va or Maryland even Pa that is good, honest (been burnt before) and knows our cars? I want it done RIGHT the first time. I also reside overseas for now so I need someone good on email to keep me up to date along the way. I have heard of LuftTeknic and GW Motorwerks which is no doubt a little $$$$$ Thanks C ![]() |

Carbster, let me know what you turn up as I'm kind of in a similar situation (and zip code). I'm interested in 914 specialists (or at least those who know 914's) in NoVA/MD. I did see that Classic Porsche Restoration (CPR) opened a location in Easton, MD (about 40 minutes past Bay Bridge right on Route 50). I have relatives in Easton so I'm in that area a lot. Bruce at CPR "East" confirmed for me that they focus primarily on complete restoration projects.
Sorry I don't have more to offer. |

If you want a super amazing quality job, check Kahiko Customs in VA. Kahiko Customs & Restorations
It's a one-man shop, so it will take a while. And it will cost... But Scotty, the owner, does amazing work. If you're looking for "just a driver-quality job", this probably isn't the place, but if you want it show-quality or better... Tangerine Racing (Tangerine Racing Flares) in CT is very into 914s, and offers paint/bodywork/restoration services. They probably aren't going to be as over-the-top on quality as Kahiko is, but they still do good work. And they're 914 people as well. Funny how I know more shops in that area than I know in my own area... ![]() --DD

Excellent, thanks Dave. Looks like "Kahiko Customs" is in "Charles City, VA" which the Google tells me is not too far from Richmond. Cool, I can go there and tell my wife I'm actually visiting our daughter at college in Richmond while I figure out whether to spend the cash on tuition at VCU or on a small block V-8.
Dave, you should move out East, then. As a transplanted guy from California Bay Area, I know you'd LOVE the winter we're having this year (no drought to speak of here....). |

I second Scotty at Kahiko Customs. I am in CA and shipped my '71 Six to him for a full restoration. You want your car in the hands of someone who knows these cars inside and out. He definitely does. Take a look at my build thread on 914World.com. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=188776

Wow, it looks like that project is coming along nicely!
Well then, it's settled: I'll redirect the tuition payments to Scotty. It's obviously the better investment ![]() |

My car is there too. He has a working shop, no fancy showroom but mad skils when it comes to rust repair and paint. I trust him and I will never go anywhere else.

Thanks and best wishes on your project. I have always believed that talent succeeds and Scotty definitely has talent.
