Alternator problems
Is it possible to change out the alternator without dropping the engine?

Yes. On a 914 with the 70-74 exhaust, you don't have to drop the exhaust, just some of the heating stuff. You either need two people for the job, or you need to remove the piece of engine tin on the left-front corner. Check in the 914 Tech Articles section elsewhere on this site for a write-up.

I've done this too many times. Just make sure you get that screw holding the tin near the impeller.
