Will these Fuchs fit my '72 914 ?
Hi Guys,
I like this 4 lug style of Fuchs. Will they work on my 4 lug 1972 1.7? The reason I ask is that the back of the wheels look wierd. Thanks in advance. Rick ![]() ![]()

Should work fine. From what I can see in the bottom pic, there is a fox at 12 oclock. With 5 lug Fuchs, that's how you can tell factory VS fakes.

yes, you have to use the correct, ball seat lug bolts

Well ... there's two encouraging responses!
Are the required lug nuts rounded on the bottom of the lug like the VW style lugs? Thanks. Rick

They'll work fine on your 72. I think the VW style bolts will work, but I'm not sure. The recesses in the Fuchs wheels are round. Sounds like the VW bolts are, too.
You need to use long lug bolts (38mm threaded shank) for alloy wheels, not the short ones for steel wheels. The stock ones are very $$$; there are aftermarket ones you can buy that are equivalent but less $$. The stock ones use a 19mm wrench, while the aftermarket ones use a 17mm--they are otherwise identical. http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/9144/POR_9144_MISCLL_pg8.htm#item41 --DD

They are rounded like VW ones, but all the VW ones are for the steel wheels, the alloys are thicker and require longer bolts, nice looking wheels

Thanks.
Good news since I bought them and they're being shipped even as we speak. The downside is that I'm gonna have to buy 16 lug bolts ... Oh well. But they're gonna look great!!!! I guess that as long as my Fourteen is down for painting and a FPRegulator install, I can shop for bolts. Life is good! Anyone got a deal on sixteen 38mm longs they wanna sell ? Rick

Anyone ever polish this type of wheel?
Hey y'all,
I have been reading a few articles on how to polish alloy wheels and there is always a warning on polishing aluminum that has a coating. Does the shiny part of this wheel have a coating or is the shine from physically polishing the actual metal? Signed, Bewildered

You will need to look at the wheels themselves. They came from the factory with an anodized "coating". It could me that at some point the wheel was stripped and polished (my 5 lug Fuchs are this way). You can nor t polish a wheel with anodizing, but you can rub in some petroleum jelly to spruce them up. You can remove the anodizing (search the Pelican tech archives) using EZ Off oven cleaner and polish away. Many prefer the factory look; me, I like polished.

Rick,
Nice find on the wheels. I am going to assume that you now have no need for my Empis. ![]()

The Empis you have for sale
Hey Matt,
I don't need the Empis you have, but I would still like to have them. Why? Because I want to own as much stuff as Humanly possible ![]() But if someone else in this forum needs a set of 4 Lug Empis, I would be happy to let them buy them. Take care, Rick

They look just fine,
I washed them with Meguiar's car wash, a stiff brush and they cleaned up just fine. New Goodyear 195's give it a little better stance ![]() The next thing would be new center caps as these are a little beaten up. Thanks, Rick ![]()

Those center caps have become unobtanium recently, if you want them new. I had a set that I put on Ebay;ast month. I had no idea and started them at $9.14 with no reserve. They went for almost $100 each!!!
