Reverse Blows my fuse!!
Hello everyone!
Strange problem.. When I place my 914 in reverse, the fuse for the directional lights, brake lights, tach and fuel gauge BLOWS! I have tried to read the wiring diagrams and current flow diagrams, but to no avail. Has anyone ever had this problem before? This weekend, I made a switch to disconnect the circuit while I back up, but that's just not right! Thanks! |

did you verify the reverse light switch works? that is the only thing electrical involved when shifting into reverse

You might try unplugging the reverse switch at the back of the transmission just to see if it stops blowing fuses after that. Does your fresh air fan work? (Shares the same fuse.)

Everything works fine (once I replace the fuse), until I place it in reverse again.
I tried removing the plug from the transmission, but it wouldn't budge. Is the switch in the transmission, or is it integrated into the shifter housing? |

switch is in the trans. Has two wires that push into it. Should be the only wires you see running to anything on a 901 box. Those wires come out of the rear lighting harness IIRC.
I agree with Randy in simply pulling both wires, TAPE over them so they don't contact and immediately form the loop and blow the fuse anyway and put it in R. If it blows, ain't the switch circuit. If it doesn't blow, then your rev switch circuit has a short somewhere.

The wires are routed through the relay board, so there's a possibility that something is wrong there. ![]()
