handbrake light still flashes

Hi,
what's the cure for a constantly on handbrake light in a 1974 914-1.8. Is the circuit permanently grounded? Can one purchase a new old stock handbrake switch at Pelican?

Assuming your handbrake switch isn't frozen, your master cylinder switch may need to be reset. Do a search here for "brake light reset"

Sometimes that little plunger switch under the handle will act up. You can take it out by removing the single screw that holds it in and you can clean it up.

Wow that is neat, I had no idea. Mine has the same problem, I just temp disconnected the wire ( I know there isn't a problem w/ master cylinder) , thought I needed a new switch.

As noted, the switch under the handbrake lever can be stuck, the switch on the m/c may need a reset although both our 914s bever had a reset button on the switch or the wire going to the lever switch could be grounded/shorted. You could leave the wire unhooked for the easiest solution since I doubt that a real 914 owner needs a light to tell them the brake is on?!

Anyone with the early two-piece handbrake handle sure needs it!!

There are two things that turn the light on:
- The wire going to the handbrake handle button is grounded.
- The wire going to the pressure warning switch is grounded.

In each case, the switch intentionally grounds the wire, or the wire might be touching ground otherwise.
