Am I asking too much?

I know I shouldn't, but I'm selling my 914. Reason is I'm fairly entrenched in building my 911SC into an 911RS(or my version thereof).

I've had many emails including the usual "Nigerian Scams" and a few phone calls. I guess because of my location I can't expect much. But still, I thought would fly right out of my hands.

Here's my CL ad:
http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/cto/845302010.html

It's a great little car but as stated I'm into getting my 911 done.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Not at all

Very reasonable price. The wheels alone are worth almost $1000! Too bad I'm not in HI.

No, for a 2.0 seems pretty reasonable. I would suggest ebay as well...

Maybe you are asking too little? The recent run up in 2.0 values is at odds with your asking price (admittedly that run up is for original examples). Makes me wonder about the rust that is there.. where it is etc;

the shipping to the mainland is another hassle...

Also, are the 5-bots via 911 conversion or hub adaptors? If 911 conversion, what size brakes (front and rear). Spell out all the enhancements.

Maybe get some better pictures (a nice backdrop, should be easy in HI, no? ) Show some or have available, more pics of the bodywork, trunks, engine compartment, etc. Not many tire kickers will travel to Hi for a better look. You need to provide that.

Put adds on other web boards too (like here, rennlist etc) and not just your local CL (assuming you haven't already done so).

racer, the 5 lug is the Auto Atlanta kit. so no adapters are needed although I am running a 1" spacer up front to put the tire nearer the edge of the fender.

You may be right about more pics. i'll have to take a few more of the trunks etc. And maybe the undercarriage as well.

If it doesn't sell, it doesn't sell. Just gives me another project once my 911 is finished.

If I do keep it I'll flare it and add more power for sure

Thanks all for the comments.

First off, I think your price is spot on for the car you are selling, it should sell for asking price... BUT

I'm not sure why no one has said this, but you have to get rid of that nada guide BS, any of us would be lucky to get 14K for a perfect 914-4 and 22k high asking?? Come on. Think about people that don't know much about these cars, if 14K was low and you were selling for $4500 what kind of problems does this car have??? A recent copy of Sports Car Market Price Guide shows your car ranging from $6 to $9K (realistically a little high on the low end but for a perfect car, 9K is probably about right - as much as we hate to admit it, 914 is not a very popular or respected Porsche... yet). You have to be realistic with your collateral in your ad, anyone searching ebay will find simiar cars for 3K-5K so they might be thinking you're trying to dupe them.

I do agree with what others have said, list the "other" parts and values of the parts, 5 lug (exactly what I'm starting to do for my car) is a plus, and the wheels are nice - point them to recent ebay sales of the wheels, they go low at $700 bucks and I've seen them sell for $1200. Show some pics of the areas where rust needs attention, and point them to resources such as this board and others for info...

I wouldn't settle for less than 4K (depending on your rust issues) and hold if you don't get the right buyer.

Good luck and please don't take this as a stab, it is not meant to offend I just want to bring everyone back to earth after looking at the nada guide.

No offense taken Calvin.

I agree with your thoughts on the nada guide value to me they are extremely optimistic. I just tossed that in there because almost certainly interested parties will look at KBB to get some kind of idea on pricing. They will end up being directed to it any way.

Those who have called and emailed me have been directed to this board as well as 914world etc.

I figure those who know a bit about these cars will realize that my price is pretty fair for what you get. And the fact that until now I was using this car for semi-daily driving points towards it's reliability.

I'm hoping it will find a home with another enthusiast.

Thanks!

I think you should mount a surf board up top and take pics then advertise it as a "Classic Hawaii Beach Cruiser"

I know you got your hands full with the SC but I think any rust really sends a lot of buyers packing and the rust on your car looks like an easy fix for you just cut it out and weld in some new metal.

Then its just possible that you really don't want to sell it.

Also the photo location could be better, with so many great backdrops on our island I think you could find some palm trees, sunsets, oceans, thongs etc, to photog in front of and some better angles of the car.

Have you posted it on forumshawaii.com ? Let me know if you need to borrow my surfboard, its 9'6" it would probably look way better with one of those slick new 6' boards on it.

9'6" is bigger than the car! If the board turns sideways the car will take off!

If that car were in Colorado at that price it would last on the market for a day, maybe two. I agree with the points about more pictures (I always look for interior and hell hole pictures when 914 shopping) and dumping the NADA stuff. Reference Excellence values instead and maybe explicitly say that part of why you are asking less than the value is because it's a unique car with a unique buyer and that you know that makes it harder to find the right person given your geography.

May have a buyer tomorrow. He's young but he's been doing a little research and he might be the "right guy" for this car.

Well, she's gone......... I'm feeling a bit of seller's remorse at this point. I hope the kid follows through and takes care of it. It was a great car while I had it.

Sure, it wasn't the fastest thing around or the prettiest, but it was probably the most unique car I've had so far.

Thanks for your input everyone!
