Garage find interest & value question
Hey there all you 914 lovers. I'm visiting from the 911 tech side of the board.
A friend just told me he was interested in selling a car he's had for a while... It's a 1971 914 with under 50K miles in original condition I believe. It's been in his garage, covered with blankets and misc garage crap for 16 years! (dry climate) Are these things valuable? I'll be helping him roll it out and take some pictures. Once we determine it's condition we'll post it on your "914 cars for sale" board and see what someone might offer him for it. Ahead of that, perhaps some of you would be generous enough to suggest (from your experience) what the kinda car is worth? I told him that after so many years the car's gaskets and rubber are probably in need of replacement. Depending on rather or not he knew how to properly handle the oil and fuel while in storage, that could be a factor. I'm a 911 guy and really don't know anything about these babies. Input and/or interest would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

Sitting isn't exactly good for these cars. It could need all new or rebuilt mechanicals, new seals, etc. Or it might only need a little TLC to get on the road. If you can prove that it's more the latter than the former, it will be worth more.
If there's little rust, that will help the value. If there are large holes in structural areas, it's a parts car. Could be anything from "Get it outta here", to a couple grand, to 5K+ if it actually runs and drives decently... --DD

Donny: Yeah what Dave said. I always love this. It's like digging into a treasure chest. You never know what you'll find. Hopefully there is very little rust. In that respect they are the same as the early 911's. Just be sure to check the fuel lines. Thats the only thing that can make your day go really bad.
