Engine serial number question!? (2.0L = GC?)

Recently bought a 914, '76 2.0L fuel injected, and got a bit of a surprise when looking at the serial number.

Pelican Parts article says engine should start with "GA" or "GB". This one starts with "GC". Built 10/75, so it was one of the last - any ideas?

Anything to worry about? Or a rare gem?

My 75 2.0 has the same prefix. The GA and GB are 73-74 with the old header type exhaust and no cat or air injection. The GC 75-76 have the less effective exhaust and ports drilled into the heads so air can be injected into the exhaust after the vavle (that way any unburnt gas has air to burn with hence lower emissions). My 75 also dose not have the hose from the valve cover to the flachback valve. I think the 73-74 motors have them.

The GA motor (Euro I think, I always mixed the GA anf GB up) is 100 hp, due to slightly higher compression than the GB (USA motor) that has 95 hp. The GC however is the worse of the bunch due to the emission equipment only 88 hp. So I don't think "gem" is a word I would use to descibe our motor.

Right now the state I live in dosen't require I have the air injection or cat. So I plan on using a 73-74 2.0L SS exhaust setup (came with a previous car). The air ports were blocked off by a PO with JB Weld so I plan on going back and doing it right.

Ah, progress...

Smog equipment? We don't need no steenkin' smog equipment!

(Or, at least that's what the PO though until he couldn't register it...)
