Will a 914-4 Steering Wheel fit a 911e & Vice Versa?
I'h have a steering for sale on EBay and I've got someone questioning if it will fit a 911e. Does anyone know? I'm pretty sure it won't as I beleive the splines are different but I thought I would check with the experts first.
Thanks......Vern |

The 914 steering wheel is one of the most popular ways to replicate a 2.7RS wheel. The splines are fine. The problem is the mounting piece for the turn signals. Without installing the 911 plastic piece, it won't turn off the signal after a turn. Otherwise it's a bolt in affair.

I may be wrong, but I believe that the early (pre-72) 914 steering wheels had the same splines as the early 911s but the later 914s do not. The steering wheels that are interchangeable are P/N 914.347.804.10, 914.347.805.10 and 914.347.806.10

Sergio,
I have a Racemark wheel with Momo hub adapter that was originally on my 1970 911T installed on my 1973 2.0 914. So, if there's a change it happened after that. Furthermore, since I sold the wheel from my '74 overseas and recently needed to move the car around my yard, I installed my '73 wheel on the car, so '74 is the same as well. What happens with '75+ is something I can't comment on with any personal experience.

I just know, from having bought a 914 wheel from a fellow Pelicanite, that not all 914 wheels fit early 911s. Fortunately, he took it back but I still lost out on shipping.
I'd like to know when they did change the 914 steering wheel splines.

Your 911 wasn't a SWB was it? SWB is different. But the OP said 911e, so I assumed LWB longnose.

The 914 steering wheels spline did not match the spline on my '70 911. I later found a 380mm 914 wheel that did.

Hmm. I've never personally owned a 914 wheel that wasn't 380mm.

Hmm. Nor have I. The reference to "380mm" was to the fact that a 914 wheel is a cheap "R/RS/RSR" wheel alternative.

Where's Dave@Pelican when you need him to set the record straight?

This thread on the SRegistry has the most info I have come across regarding 914 steering wheels and their compatibility with early 911s:
http://www.early911sregistry.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12267 It still doesn't answer why the first 914 wheel I bought had different splines than those on my '70 911.

A '72 914 I bought a few years ago (now sold) had an original three spoke 911 wheel on it. So I know the splines are similar. But the trim at the hub didn't match the column and the turn signals would not automatically cancel after a turn. I replaced it with another stock 914 wheel and installed the three spoke wheel on my '81 SC. The PO had bolted on a "racing style" wheel that didn't fit right and was way too close to the 911 dashboard.
