No power to injectors, 1.8
Trying to get the 75 1.8 that's been sleeping for 15 years going again. Learning about the 1.8 FI, what fun. I cleaned out the fuel pump, verified it runs. Fuel injectors are cleaned, operate. Dual relay clicks when starting.
Still have no power going to injectors when trying to start. What do I look at next?

The power goes from the dual relay to the resistor block to the injectors. No power at the injectors means the dual relay has a problem, the resistor pack has a problem, or the wiring to those has a problem. Check for voltage at each side of the resistor pack.

The grounds are very important where the spade connectors attach to the
case which should be near one end or another on the case, top and one case bolt before end. After 15 years there might be some corrosion. Some of the sensors can be bad which would inhibit the cu,such as the cylinder head temperature sensor or its connection. The 1975 model year had AFC or air flow control. Remove the air filter and with the ignition switch on and using your hand press on the flap located just inside the intake air sensor, you should hear the fuel pump run. Now,I know I'll get flak for this one but when I had trouble with any of all the 914's I've ever owned I used my old buddy, cold starting fluid. The trick I used on AFC systems was this. Remove the air filter. Loosen the band that tightens the intake air sensor to the throttle valve. With the throttle valve visable and starting fluid in one hand and acceleration cable in the other hand where it meets the top of the throttle valve, open the valve and spray twice into the throttle valve. Quickly replace intake air sensor, tighten snug quickly and attempt to start car. Never spray starting fluid directly into intake air sensor. The car should start or attempt to turn over. At least this tells you your electrical system is working. Another idea is to clean the trans ground strap where it attachs to body and trans. Lots of oil and corrosion there. Another gremlin to hunt down is the o-ring in the oil cap. Replace it. Finally, the relay board hides lots of gremlins. Are the two fuses OK. The ground cable that attaches to the body just above the relay board. Is it free of corrosion. 71 914 66 912 V8 76 911S 81 911 SC |
