Hello from the 944 board.....914..2.0

Hello

I am a list member who owns 2 944's.

I am looking at a 1976 2.0 914.

Fifty something on the odometer.

Looks nice but have not seen it in person.

If the car is clean what should i expect to pay?

Dave

Without more details I would say 4000.00 - 5000.00 but it would have to be really clean. Not sure where you are located but these are prone to rust. You need to know where to look and look hard ! These are great little cars but rust is the enemy.

Thanks for your reply

The owner is a bit high at 9k.

She said they had rebuilt the engine not long ago.

I know to check the heat exchagers and floor bonnet and rear under deck but any other spots i should check?

I think 4k...to5k is in the ballpark if it is as clean as it looks in the one photo.

The car is close to me so transport is no big deal.

will the 2.0 give about the same dynamics as the 944 n/a?

Dave

The 2.0 will be anemic compared to a later 944. The tossability will be an eye-opener, though. The light weight and low polar moment are almost an inverse of the 44.

4-5K is a bit behind the times; the 914 is now (slowly) appreciating. A really solid one may very well go for somewhere near 9K now.

Condition affects value, of course. Rust is the major enemy; especially under the battery area. And along the main longitudinal members of the body. Other areas are less common, but it's not exactly rare to see rust on any given part of the 914.

is it 50 something or 150 something.. silly 5 digit odometers

Depending where you live, a '76 may still need to pass smog. Check local rules. I had a '76 that was in great shape that sold for $11K last August.

Just under 6k for mine, needing very little. Make sure it's the right car for you and you're happy the rust is minimal and go for it. Buyer's market!

Landrover,

Where are you located? I have a 1976, one family owned since new. Original paint & interior, fantastic condition. All original. Sweet Malagna Red & Tan interior, 107,000 miles. Correct, original FI.

914 Engines are definitely more anemic then a 944 N/A, but they are allot of fun to drive. i'de love to get my hands on another one.
