Exclamation dodged a bullet

I knew it was only a matter of time. My boy put the air filters back on the carbs. He didn't get the screw tight enough and it fell out. Thats not the worst of it, that little clip inside wiggled loose and dropped down the Carb throat!!!! hung up for a second jammed open the carbs sent the engine to 7 grand inbetween a missed shift.
Had to pull the manifold to fish out the clip which was peacefully resting waiting for it's chance to dive into the cylinder. Fired it up and drove home. All seems OK but boy that was close one.
So there has got to be a better way. I thought I would braze the bolt stud from the inside and put a wing nut on the top.
Second what are the different set ups for carb linkage. Mine is set on a post bolted to the case. Two reach rods going to the carbs pulled by a lever in the middle. NOT VERY PRECISE.

The preferred setup appears to be a crossbar-type linkage, where a single bar goes across from carb to carb and the throttle actuating rods on each carb attach to arms coming off of that. The CB Performance "hex bar" is supposed to be very very good.

In general, the linkage with the swivel in the middle is viewed as not very good. It tends to change adjustment with the temperature of the engine...

Uh Oh not as good As I tought

Looks or sounds like I broke something on that last run. cranked it up today ran rough all the way to the store unless I really got on it and just zipped along.
Got it back home all cylinders seem to be firing although # 4 seemed different. Pulled the idle jet out of habit and blew it out, no change. Here is the bad part sounds like a banging under the car. Could I have bent a valve or something when I went WAY past red line the other day? I will check compression later as I am booked up till monday.
GOOG THING MY 928 IS RUNNING.

If you bent a valve, it should missfire. Continued running could cause the valve head to fall off and --------- you know.

If you bent (a) pushrod(s), you might get the "banging" sound (lifter being "slapped" and taking up slack in valve train).

How's the oil pressure?

Stumped

Well crawled up under the car, pulled all push rods look straight rolled on piece of glass. Adjusted all the valves what a pain if you don't get the push rod all the way into the lifter. buttoned it back up and fired it up. Cold the oil is near 80 psi warm about 20 psi. Think maybe a collapsed a lifter ???? This car has a web cam .500 lift 270 duration. rocker arms are minus the spring instead there is a solid bushing. adjusters are long with a ball end. yes I made sure the flat end is against the valve stem. Going to run it later and see if it blows up or not. I think I need new copper header seals as it sounds like a leak pht pht.
