Physically, it will work fine. May be some harness issues to get the 2.0 Brain to work.. just don't know. Is your 1.7 currently injected or converted to carbs? It will bolt right up to your trans.

If you're not dedicated to originality, you could also go the Subi route. The EJ22 turbo engines can be had for under $200 (plus peripherals such as ECU, cooling and adapter).

Edit: Please don't egg my house for making this suggestion.

If your 1.7 is still injected, the 2.0 will bolt right up to everything. You don't need the other gas tank, as yours should be pretty much identical to the 2.0 one. (If the new one is in better shape then by all means swap, but it isn't necessary.)

If someone swapped your 1.7 over to carbs, you'll need to undo that swap to use the injection on the 2.0 engine.

Make sure you retain the side shift.

Like Dave said it's a straight forward swap.

Another question, the engine number is 5577 CJ 477439 this number is on a plate riveted on top of the original engine number, anyone know what this is. the seller won't let me remove the plate to see what is under it.
