76-914

New Guy,I have a 76-914 just got last month,I would like some input please (1) do you feel that a 76 should be keeped stock.Or wouldit be a shame to flare it out and put 5 lug nut rims on it.The color is malaga red which I really don't care for.I would like to repaint it but do not want to hurt the value of car by changing color. Thanks for your ideas

If you're concerned about the value, then preserve it stock with the original color. There weren't many 76 914s made--in fact, they are more rare than the 914-6! Then again, they aren't as well-regarded as the 914-6, so demand isn't immensely high for them either.

Decide if you want a car to drive and have fun beating on (maybe taking to track days), or a car to polish while it slowly appreciates in value. Treat the car accordingly. Or perhaps sell it to someone who wants it as it is, and buy a 914 that is closer to what you want?

I had a '76 Malaga Red 914 for a while. Didn't like the color at first but grew to like it. My paint was in really great shape, and depending on the light it could look burgundy or bright red. It was only after I sold it I realized how many other period cars used the color (ie, BMW 2002's, some Mercedes too)

x2 on what Dave says.. if you want to "keep" the value, keep it as original as possible. That said, flares, 5bolts and a nice motor upgrade makes for a really fun car to enjoy.

You don't mention where you live, but IIRC, '76 can be a tough year in Cali due to emissions concerns. Outside of there, it may not be an issue.. It wasn't for where I live.
