I have a 1970 914 Porsche that had the stock fuel injection changed to dual Weber carbs and it runs OK. My dad's Porsche really thinks it should be converted back to stock injection. Anyone have any opinions which to use. Thx Hipdoc.

While the car would be more valuable, if thats possible, with the Stock FI, why mess with carbs if they are working fine? The small difference in driveability isn't worth it, imho.. and the potential headache of acquiring a known, complete and WORKING stock D-Jet FI system may not be cheap or easy. Aftermarket? why bother...

If you like the way the car runs and drives now, I wouldn't bother going back to FI. Unless you want to tinker with it, or you want more originality. Any stock-type FI you get ahold of is going to be an unknown quantity, while the carbs you have on the car now are a known one. Much easier to go with what is already known.

If the engine was rebuilt to make real use of the carbs, then the stock FI will never run right. In particular, a "hot" cam confuses the manifold-pressure reading very significantly. So if you aren't sure about the cam, stay with carbs.

The aftermarket FI setups are great for someone who wants to learn about fuel injection, or someone who likes to tinker, or someone who wants the benefits of FI without the drawbacks of the ancient stock system and doesn't mind the work and $$ needed to properly set up and tune an injection setup.

Much as I prefer fuel injection, there's a reasonable chance that keeping the current setup is the better choice in this circumstance.
