best ecu setting for performance on 73 2.0L?

OK, i've read most of the posts on factory setting of the ecu knob and idle screw for the 73 2.0L . Since I don't have to pass smog on my 73 914, what is the best setting for my ecu knob for performance- leaner or richer air/fuel mixtures. I/ve read that the setting is usually in the middle around 11 clicks of a possible 22 clicks on the ecu knob + or - 3 clicks. Is it better to be on the richer side of the setting or leaner side? I guess a dyno would prove the point, but since I don't have access to a dyno I figured you guys might be able to answer the question for me. Just how far can i go in terms of the ecu knob in either direction for performance?
Thanks,
Xerxez

Mixture control

I believe that the ECU mixture knob only controls the mixture at idle. If you want to change the mixture at off idle, you would need to adjust the MPS. Clockwise = richer. This is not recommended due to the sensitivity and potential problems you could cause. Perhaps the best alternative is to increase the resistance between the Cyl. head Temp. Sensor and the ECU. This can be done with a potentiometer or a fixed resistor. Also very easy to do.

I hope this helps. You should get lots of hits on this topic.

Yup, the ECU knob only controls idle mixture, off idle it has no effect.

Get an exhaust gas analyzer or pay a shop that has one to verify the air/fuel mixture and adjust as per the previous post.

These cars seem to like a little bit rich.
